The Perfect cup

At Lariat the “perfect cup of coffee” is coffee so rich and flavorful you’re compelled to pause and savor the experience. A taste you look forward to cup after cup, day after day. Everything we do here at Lariat boils down to that one moment, when you take a sip of our coffee for the first time, every time.

The following checklist and guidelines will help you brew the perfect cup of coffee:
Fresh Roasted Coffee - best within 3 weeks of roast date.
Ground - varies according to your brewing method.
Hot Water - just off the boil (195 degrees) preferably filtered.
Ratio - coffee to water ratio 2 Tablespoons coffee for ever 6-8 ounces water.

The checklist is short but there are many variables that adversely affect the flavor of coffee. Here’s a detailed explanation of each item and the variables:

Coffee & storage

Freshness decreases when coffee is exposed to light, oxygen & extreme temperature changes. Keep your coffee in an airtight, opaque container in a cool pantry. Never store coffee in the refrigerator. We recommend consuming fresh roasted coffee within the first 3-4 weeks for optimum flavor. If kept longer, you can store it in the freezer in a tightly sealed container.***Bring to room temperature before grinding and/or brewing.

Grind

Quality is best when freshly ground. The best grind is achieved using a burr grinder. Blade grinders produce uneven grounds and uneven extraction during brewing. If you do not have a burr grinder we will gladly pre-grind your coffee according to your brewing method. We recommend you consume pre-ground coffee within 3 weeks for optimum flavor retention.

Hot water

Fresh, cold, filtered water just off the boil makes the best coffee. Optimum water temperature for brewing is 190-200* F. It is a good idea to test the temperature of your automatic drip coffee maker; those under 1000 watts often do not brew hot enough, producing weaker coffee.

Brewing ratio

2 Tablespoons of coffee for every 6-8 ounces is the industry standard recommendation for most drip brewing methods. For times when milder coffee is desired, try brewing according to the industry standard ratio; then add hot water to taste. Brewing with less coffee can often lead to weak, less desirable coffee. This is especially important when serving to multiple people with differing tastes.
